A sci-fi themed theatrical dance production, iso: felt like a millenial silent film in the best possible way. [...] The audience is treated to four dynamic performers that develop the plot with dance, accompanied by a great selection and variety of backing tracks. The most remarkable performances occur in the electronic, almost industrial music in which the extraterrestrial characters are featured, with sharp, synchronized movement and pointed breaks out of that synchronization. But lighter, more humorous pieces interspersed throughout help keep the audience engaged and are the most likely to elicit spontaneous applause.

Here’s a dance show for four young women with an inspired backing premise. Passing space travelers decide to play a joke on Earth by sending down their detritus, three robot rejects rebooted with glowing hearts. They get dropped off where an already alienated Earthling hangs out alone, just monitoring things at the spaceship landing pad in Vulcan, Alberta. Inevitable questions arise: what will the robots learn from the human, and vice versa? Will they befriend her or do they have a nasty nature?

If you’ve never seen interpretive bell dancing before—or even if you have—iso: would be a great show to check out during Fringe 2019.
